The most recent market intelligence report from Lighting Global, the World Bank Group’s platform to support sustainable growth of the international off-grid solar market, and GOGLA, the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association, has again shown rapid growth and change in the sector.

The statistics from the report cover the first half of 2016. Highlights include:

  • 5 million people are current living with improved energy access because of off-grid lighting
  •  Products sold have collectively replaced 20.8 million harmful lighting sources (like kerosene lamps) - saving $4.33 billion in energy related spending for families
  • Quality verified products represented 80 percent of sales

Both GOGLA and Lighting Global are partners of Power for All, and have worked over many years to build a commercial market for off-grid lighting. The publication builds on a previous report, and is the second in a series of six-month market updates that supplement the broader biennial 2016 Off-Grid Solar Market Trends Report released earlier this year.
