On 10 May, Sierra Leone launched a pioneering energy revolution to get 250,000 solar lighting and energy products to households and businesses in the country by the end of 2017, and achieve modern energy for all by 2025.

As progress on the first 100 days of the initiative is released, we spoke to the Sierra Leone Minister of Energy, Henry Macauley, to learn about the rapid steps that have been taken to speed up energy access—including elimination of taxes and tariffs on decentralized solar, and a customs 'Green Lane' for imports—and how support from the international community is critical for success.
