About David Hirsch

David Hirsch is a Vice President at Generate Capital, a public benefit corporation and leading sustainable infrastructure company focused on providing the money and help energy pioneers need to get projects built. He has over 15 years of experience in finance, investments, and leadership.

David spent the first five years of his career at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch and affiliates, where he worked in Energy & Power Investment Banking in New York and Real Estate Private Equity in London. He worked on marquee transactions such as a +$1 billion refinancing of combined cycle gas turbine plants and the $200 million Bosphorus Real Estate Fund in Turkey. Wanting to focus on renewable energy and sustainability, he went to UC Berkeley Haas for his MBA, which led to a job in the rotational program at SunEdison, one of the world's largest renewable energy project developers at the time.

In 2015, David helped organize SunEdison's Eradication of Darkness event, which opened his eyes to the potential for renewables to improve lives in an environmentally sound way. David used that insight to create a role for himself at SunEdison Frontier Power in Madrid, building out a business focused on rural electrification in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. He enjoyed visiting the communities and seeing the catalytic impact that renewable electricity and the enabled lights, refrigeration, irrigation, and computers could bring to remote communities. Following his work at SunEdison, David helped establish Yoma Micropower, a mini-grid operator in Myanmar and then he became the Director of Finance at Powerhive, where he could directly finance mini-grids and the roll-out of other economic development investments in Kenya. David has been at Generate Capital for the past 4 years, where he has invested in various technologies including energy efficiency measures, community solar installations, energy storage projects, and sustainable data centers.
